Further Publications Planned
The Order of the The Divine Office from Common Worship, set to plainsong and other related simple chant.
The Liturgical Psalter from Common Worship set to plainsong, with other related chant, and provided with ferial antiphons (“refrains”).
A new edition of the Psalter of The Book of Common Prayer set to plainsong, with other related chant, and provided with ferial antiphons (“refrains”). An updated “Briggs & Frere”.
When I wrote of the possibility of publishing supplementary texts for the new Roman Office in Latin, I had imagined that the new Antiphonale Romanum, part I, would by now have been published. It would appear to be stalled because of disagreement between music editors and liturgical officials concerning how to treat new liturgical texts, those which have no traditional Gregorian melody. As far as I’m aware, there is an impasse; in the absence of any official books, the idea of a supplement seems rather superfluous!
I had been planning a version of The Simple Gradual (Graduale Simplex) adapted to English texts. However, Rome is in the midst of an upheaval with regard to English translations of the Roman Rite. This process may go on for some years, and, at the end of it, the likely outcome would be that the English translations one would use to make such a book now would no longer be authorised. I have therefore decided the project would more wisely be shelved until the process has reached a conclusion. Publishers can be bankrupted by continuous revolution in liturgical texts!
